The Mariinsky Theatre held a landmark concert on July 18, which became a cultural symbol of friendly relations between Russia and China. It was held as part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries.
In the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre, his Symphony Orchestra under the direction of the artistic director of the theater, a distinguished conductor, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, laureate of three State Prizes Valery Gergiev performed. Together with the Russian musicians, Mariinka has been joined by the Chinese violinist Paloma Seo - a rising star that has already won public recognition in many countries.
She has been studying violin since the age of nine with Russian musician and teacher Zahar Bron, reported in the Mariinsky Theatre. In 2015, when she was ten years old, Paloma won the II prize at the International Competition of Young Violinists in Poland. A year later she was awarded the 1st prize of a similar competition in Novosibirsk, becoming the youngest participant in the history of the contest. In 2017, she won the main prize of the international television competition for young musicians in Moscow "Golden Nutcracker".
On the stage of Mariinka orchestra under Valery Gergiev and Paloma Sō presented a lively concert program of works from European and Russian classics.
There were works by four prominent composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. This is a prelude to "The Afternoon Rest of Fawn" by Debussy, a violin concert with the orchestra of Sibelius, the brilliant ubertyur-fantasy "Romeo and Juliet" by Tchaikovsky and the famous "Bolero" by Ravel.
The audience welcomed the musicians very warmly and thanked them with long applause.
