MAGAS, July 29. /TASS/. Archaeologists have discovered ancient crypts and stone stelae on the territory of the medieval tower complex Gyagi‑Gyalash in the Republic of Ingushetia, the regional government reported.
“On the territory of the medieval tower complex Gyagi‑Gyalash, nine previously unknown cultural heritage sites have been identified. The new finds are the result of research work. Among the discovered objects are ancient crypts and three stone stelae located in the coastal zone of the Assa River,” the government of Ingushetia said.
It is noted that after the completion of state registration, the number of cultural heritage sites on the territory of the complex will increase from 11 to 20. Documents for including the new monuments in the unified register have already been sent to the Committee for State Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites of the republic.
The Gyagi‑Gyalash tower complex is a medieval monument of Ingush architecture, located in the Dzheyrakhsky District of Ingushetia at the entrance to the Assin Gorge. The complex dates back to the 12th–17th centuries. In the Middle Ages, it occupied a strategic position as a checkpoint.
