The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation recorded 200 million visits to Russian museums in 2025, with a 12% increase compared to 2024. The five most popular museums are exclusively those of St. Petersburg. For many years the ranking was headed by the museum-reserve "Peterhof", but in 2026 for the first time in the first place - the State Russian Museum, also St. Petersburg.
It is noted that today the museum is perceived not only as a place where you can enjoy viewing works of art. The trend is such that to attract visitors to museum complexes, museums have to transform their activities, that is, create large entertainment complexes that combine a set of events for any request: workshops, festivals, lectures, etc. It is important to indicate that, that today the average check for a trip to an exhibition or gallery is on average 1 thousand rubles
The total revenues of museums in the country grew by almost 20% over the year and exceeded 170 billion rubles. Of this amount, only 35 billion came from the core activities of institutions, and the rest - various budget subsidies and grants, follows from the Ministry of Culture’s report.
